Zero Data Collection: Secure Answer operates primarily on your local device. We minimize data collection and do not track your browsing activity or personal information.
🛡️ Our Privacy Commitment
Secure Answer is a browser extension that extracts and summarizes solutions from web content to produce clear, step-by-step answers. The extension is designed to perform most processing locally in your browser.
Secure Answer is designed with privacy-first principles. Most operations are performed locally in your browser. Your data stays on your device unless you explicitly choose to use external services.
📊 Data We May Collect and Why
Content You Ask the Extension to Process
If you use the extension's "Generate Answer" feature, Secure Answer will read the content on the current web page (for example, the question text and surrounding context) and process it. By default this processing is done in your browser. If you choose to use an external API (OpenAI) via the extension's settings, that question text and any user-provided prompt will be sent to the API provider to generate the response.
API Keys and Account Data
If you enter an API key (for example an OpenAI API key) into the extension settings, that key is stored locally in your browser's extension storage. The extension uses the key to make requests to the selected API; the key is not transmitted to any third party by the extension developer. You are responsible for the security of the key and for any usage billed by the API provider. To remove a stored key, delete it from the extension's settings.
Diagnostic Logs and Errors
For troubleshooting, Secure Answer may write local diagnostic logs to the browser console. These logs may include non-sensitive snippets of the question text and short stack traces for errors. The extension does not transmit logs to any server unless you explicitly choose to share logs (for support or debugging) and explicitly confirm that action.
💾 Local Storage Only
Extension preferences and settings are stored locally using browser storage APIs:
- API keys (stored securely in browser extension storage)
- User interface preferences
- Display options
- No cloud synchronization by default
🔄 How Data is Used
- Local processing: The extension parses and formats the content into step-by-step answers within your browser.
- Optional API calls: If you enable and provide an API key, Secure Answer will send the question (and any prompt) to the API provider to generate answers. The API provider's privacy policy applies to that data (for example, OpenAI).
- Export and copy: When you copy or export an answer, that data is placed on your clipboard or saved locally; no automatic uploads occur.
🌍 Third-Party Services
Secure Answer may offer integration with third-party AI providers (for example OpenAI) to generate or improve answers. These providers are separate entities with their own privacy policies. If you use a third-party service, please review the provider's privacy policy.
- No External Servers: We do not operate servers that collect or process your data
- No Analytics: We do not use analytics tools to track your usage
- No Third-Party Tracking: We do not integrate with data collection services for tracking purposes
- No User Accounts: We do not require or create user accounts
- No Advertising: We do not display ads or use advertising networks
For OpenAI integration, see OpenAI Privacy Policy.
Important: The extension developer is not responsible for third-party service practices. When you send content to a third-party API, that content leaves your device and is handled by the service according to its policies and terms.
🔐 Security
We implement robust security measures to protect the integrity of the extension:
- Manifest V3 compliance for enhanced security
- Minimal permissions required for functionality
- Local-first architecture minimizes external data transfers
- No external network requests except to services you explicitly configure (OpenAI API)
Important: Your data is as secure as your browser. We recommend using a strong browser password and keeping your API keys private. If you believe a security issue exists, contact us immediately.
⚙️ Browser Permissions Explained
Why does Secure Answer need these permissions?
- "Access your data for websites": Required to read question text and content from web pages you're viewing
- "Storage": Used to save your extension preferences (API keys, display options) locally in your browser
- "Access browser tabs": Needed to identify which website you're currently on to extract relevant content
🚫 Data Sharing
We do not share your data. Period. There is no data sharing, selling, or transfer to third parties because we don't collect your personal data in the first place.
📱 Device Information
We do not collect any device information, browser fingerprints, IP addresses, or any identifying information about your system.
👤 Your Rights and Controls
Since we don't collect personal data on our servers, there is no data to access, modify, or delete from external systems. However, you maintain full control:
- Disable cloud APIs: Do not enter an API key — the extension will perform processing locally where possible
- Remove stored keys: Delete the API key from extension settings to stop future API calls
- Do not share content: Avoid using the "Export" or "Share" features if you want to keep content entirely local
- Clear local data: Use your browser's extension settings to clear stored data for the extension
- Revoke permissions: You can revoke extension permissions at any time through browser settings
- Complete removal: You can completely remove the extension without any data remaining on external servers
👶 Children's Privacy
Secure Answer is not directed to children under the age of 13. The extension does not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal data, please contact us and we will take steps to remove the data.
